Clerical Assistant

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, plus 1 in 3 Saturdays on a rota basis

We are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to become part of the administrative support service within the Orkney Ferries office.

This position represents a challenging opportunity assisting in a wide range of duties including general administrative support, dealing with enquiries from the general public, account holders and customers in all matters relating to ferry ticketing, tariffs, bookings and timetables.

As part of the Kirkwall office team, you will take bookings on the computerised booking system and notify customers in the event of disruptions, cancellations or other changes to Ferry services.

With a busy workload you must be organised and able to work on your own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines. Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills are essential. Candidates will also be able to demonstrate the ability to establish good working relationships with all levels of staff and to provide a professional service to the public.

You will hold a minimum of SVQ2, or equivalent level qualification, preferably in an Administration related subject. You should be familiar with all Microsoft Office packages. You should have at least 1 year post qualification experience working in an office environment and experience in a customer service environment, which must include the general public.

Applicants should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
